See, I found LoTR books really hard going. Tolkien rocked at creating a world and races and languages and history and all that stuff, but he sucked at creating characters and he tended to spend far too long describing scenery for no apparent reason. However, the books are still awesome for all that, for the detail and love that went into their creation.

But I find the films managed to capture the feel and essence of the books, while cutting out the stuff that was unnecessary. The films are just an awesome, amazing, jaw dropping piece of film making and no matter how many times I watch them, I am never less than awe-struck.

Why yes, I am something of a geek about LoTR. Why do you ask? ;)

I love that you are a geek about them. I was bought up on the books so naturally I prefer them. But I have to say they are possibly the BEST book to movie adaptation I have seen.
